The creation of a visual and verbal brand expression for the Cedarville University Alumni Association that aims to give the alumni community something to cheer for.

The Need

We have worked with Cedarville University over the last few years to establish a strategic messaging platform across all levels of the university. The alumni association was in need of expressing this message for their audience as well as creating a visual brand for it that synced up with the overall brand that we helped refine for the university.

The Goals

We set out to create a brand expression that would become a rallying point and give the alumni something to belong to. With the alumni messaging branch of the overall university message being "how you live your life matters", we wanted to reinforce the idea that Cedarville is something that can continue to be a part of you and your life well after graduation.

The Solution

By including some of the existing athletic design elements we were able to tap into the spirit brand of the university and meld that with some of the traditionally academic elements to create an expression that feels exciting but also traditional. The tag "Jackets for Life" does a similar thing, but with language. The remaining brand assets and expressions were all created to establish a foundation for the alumni association to build on.

The Takeaway

As an academic institution, it's easy to default to a more traditional expression of your brand, but it's important to remember that your alumni and current students are always looking for something to cheer for. Don't be afraid to "cross the streams" and allow your spirit brand to have a place in your academic marketing efforts.

TAGLINE

As a Cedarville University alum, you are a "Jacket for Life". This term is used to show that the connection to Cedarville is something that can be depended on long after graduation. The lockups are created by combining the existing mascot artwork and a custom type treatment.
